My period blood is brown, what does that mean?
Posted on May 28th, 2010 by admin
I did some research and it all said that it’s old blood and that I should change my pad more often. But it’s not the old blood. Sorry to be graphic and disgusting, but the blood is brown and it’s not dry at all.
I did have a pregnancy scare, but I got period cramps, got a normal blood flow. I’m on day 2 of my period, there’s crimson blood and brownish blood today, and I’m feeling nausious (usually do on period) and having light cramps. Flow is normal too.
Why is my period brown!?
Truly – please do not worry. It is absolutely true that it IS just older blood. Even when it comes out roght at the moment you see it, it’s just blood that has been lingering inside your uterus. It has NOTHING to do with your personal hygiene, or your speed in changing pads. It’s truly to be expected that you see brighter red blood and browner blood, all throughout your period. Browner blood is just usually seen more often at the end of your period.
So stop worrying that you’re not clean enough – this is the normal cycle that all menstruating women go through. Just take care of yourself and your pain (Ibuprofen REALLY helps), and use a heating pad or hot water bottle against wherever your pain is more intense.
Don’t stress yourself out about such issues as the colour of your blood, because stress really intensifies the painful cramps. You are doing everything right. Just relax, and get through the days as best as you can. The pregnancy scare is obviously over, and any excess stress you experienced from it was really just aggravated in the pain you experienced.
take care, sweetie.

It’s okay. Sometimes the blood comes is brown instead of bright red.
If you are still concerned though, check with your doctor.

DOn’t worry, it’s not unusual on early / late days of the cycle, but if you feel there is anything unusual, the best idea is to go to a family planning / sexual health clinic because they are there to allay your fears and it’s never worth sitting at home worrying. It’s always a good idea to use it as an opportunity to get checked for other things too and just to put your mind at rest.
Blood color indicates what is going on with the blood. Red blood has oxygen in it and blue blood has more carbon dioxide in it then oxygen. Brown indicates that the blood cells have quit being active or have died. If there is odor along with the color it may be of greater concern. As the other writer suggests, get it checked on.
it means your vagina is cleaning it self

um… did you notice if it’s any thicker than usual? brown blood can also be due to more actual tissue. You know? there’s actually only about two tablespoons of blood during a menstrual cycle, the rest is actually the tissue from the uterine lining.
Tissue is darker and thicker.

nothing to worry about
the darker the blood it simply means it is "old" blood. perhaps your period was a little later than usual. sometimes our bodies do not release all the blood at the same time and some of it is older than the rest.

there’s a good chance your vagina and anus have switched places in the night.
