Brown Huntsman Spiders in my bathroom
I’m afraid this footage is rather gory for some of you in terms of what’s going on.
Brown Huntsman Spiders, Heteropoda venatoria, are common in temperate and tropical regions throughout the world, though it is believed that they originate in the Southeast Asia. It is said that they were introduced to Japan around Edo period, about 250 years ago,
The females’ leg span can reach 5″, and that makes them the biggest spiders here in Japan. They virtually never cause any harm to humans and indeed very beneficial due to their ability to hunt cockroaches.
The ones seen here were still young, about an inch long.

Great video! I have never seen these spiders eating one another. I agree, it seems that there are many of these spiders already this year. ~Kurt
