Brown spotting after years on birth control?

I have been on birth control for 4 years and never had a problem. Now I have had brown spotting for the last 3 weeks. My last period was 3 weeks ago and I am supposed to get my next period next week. Ever since my last period, however, I have had brown spotting. I haven’t missed a pill all month either.

Please help.

Brown spotting denotes blood that has been in there a while…. as fresh blood would be bright red. However, it is not uncommon for people to have spotting between periods when you are on BC. Consider whether you have switched your brand of BC, or if you have had a large amount of stress. Typically, if you call your doctor, and ask to speak with his/her nurse, she will call you back and answer any questions you may have, and help you decide whether you should be seen or not.
