What are the proper steps to painting brown trim white?

I had someone tell me I needed to sand them and then paint. If so, do I need to buy a special paint? Will the white paint cover the brown? Thanks for your help! This is my first home and I love everything about it EXCEPT the brown trim!!

Wash trim well with cleanser & water with Pine Sol, Spc N Span, Mr Clean, etc… or rough up surface well.
Kiltz primer
good quality white paint (be prepared to do 2 coats).

Rough up the surface; sandpaper or a wire brush works well. Then prime paint it, then add two coats according to directions and don’t use cheap paint.

Prime the brown trim with Kilz.Then just simply paint with the white paint.
