Brown Recluse Spider

Posted on July 1st, 2010 by admin

Found this spider in my apartment, not something you want in your home living with you. These spiders don’t build a web to catch bugs, they wander around and search for their prey. The venom is quite potent and has been known to be deadly in some cases. The venom is known to keep working in those who survive a bite from these spiders. Some have had toes or fingers lost because of how the venom keeps eating away flesh that it is working through.

I keep finding these little black brown spiders in my house?

Posted on June 25th, 2010 by admin

What are they? I keep finding them, there about the size of a nickle and no markings I don’t think. Don’t really stop to look at them since I only see them when I’m getting ready to go to bed and just kill them. I live in California by the way, in case that helps.

They are most probably brown recluse or black widow spiders.

Black widows usually have a distinct red mark, and what you described sounds more like a brown recluse. Links for more info and pics are below. I would suggest going through the identification points and making sure its brown recluse, otherwise be very careful as black widows are venomous. For brown recluse, you just have to be careful about making sure they are not in your bedding or clothes, as they only bite when they are disturbed.

Be safe! :)

—also, brown recluse are nocturnal (come out at night)

DEADLY SPIDER BITE
http://biggestspider.seowebvideo.com The brown recluse spider like many other spider bites, is extremely hard to feel; if anything, the spider bite would feel like a pinprick if even noticed at all. The brown recluse is one of four poisonous spiders. In fact, only 60 out of 20,000 species of spiders are actually capable of biting at all. http://biggestspider.seowebvideo.com

I just moved to Alabama and have killed two brown spiders about the size of a quarter.?

Posted on June 16th, 2010 by admin

After they died, a pink coil thing came out of them. The coil would not die! It kept wiggling around for hours. Anyone have a clue what kind of spider that is?

Maybe it is a parasite, many years ago I saw a similar thing with a fly, something wiggled out of it moments after the fly was dead.

Are there brown recluse spiders in eastern NC?

Posted on June 8th, 2010 by admin

I could have sworn I killed a brown recluse in my apartment last nite. But no one believes that it was a brown recluse. As soon as I killed it I looked up pictures of it online and it looked ALOT like a recluse.

Eastern North Carolina is a bit of a stretch out of the spider’s reported natural range, but I am not going to say it is impossible.

This website has a lot of good pictures of the brown recluse;

Spiders commonly thought to be Brown Recluses;

Southern house spider males; (does live in your area)

http://bugguide.net/node/view/47644

Spiders of the family tengellidae; (Native to the western US coast)

I have seen people mistake grass spiders for recluses, and those live in your area too;

http://bugguide.net/node/view/31823

Spider ID is a lot harder than most people think.

*an important thing to note is that recluses are rather small spiders, with a body length of less than half an inch as an adult.

What to do about infestation of Brown Recluse spiders and is the landlord legally responsible?

Okay, I’m about to sound like a looney, but I wanted to give you some good advice…

Find a health food store and buy "activated charcoal powder"

If you are ever bitten by a brown recluse bite.. make a poultice and apply, changing frequently..

I’m serious.. this, if done properly, will draw out the poision.. CHarcoal is well known as a powerful poison asorbant.. This is not an old wives tale remedy, it is scientifically backed.. It is powerful in absorbing poisions and toxins… Application and ingestion of charcoal is what saved the life of an 18 year old boy at the school I worked at. He was stung by a bee, and almost died (allergic).. I was there.. he couldn’t breathe… The school was out in the country, far away from hospitals.. The principal (a nurse) thought she was going to have to do an emergency tracheotomy.. but someone had a few charcoal tablets in a first aid kit.. they eased his symptoms enough to keep him alive until he could get to a hospital..

By all means see your doctor too, but if you do this, you can save yoruself from possibly having chunks of flesh surgically removed.

Catch it quick.. If you get anything that looks like a mosquito bite, watch it carefully.. If it shows any signs of getting worse instead of better, apply the charcoal..

You don’t want to mess around with Brown Recluse bites.. they can cause serious damage…

Here’s a website that tells you how to make a "charcoal poultice" http://www.charcoalremedies.com/stories/how2make.htm
